The Hamtramck City Council voted on May 22 to rescind a prior censure of Councilman Yousef Saeed, a move several members described as an effort to restore collegiality after social‑media controversy and internal complaints.
A motion to rescind resolution 2026‑32 was introduced during new business. Several council members spoke in favor of revoking the censure, calling it personal and saying the newly elected member deserved a chance to focus on constituent work. “I appreciate that you guys bringing this back and uncensoring Mister Said,” a council member said during debate. Another member apologized to the councilman and urged colleagues to forgive human mistakes and move forward.
Councilman Yousef Saeed also spoke, saying the matter had been an emotional response and that he had apologized; he told the body the issue was about fairness and not intended to target any individual. Members repeatedly urged respect in public communications and encouraged the councilman to continue serving the community.
Clerk Clark conducted a roll call after discussion; affirmative votes from the members present were recorded and the motion to rescind passed. Council members said they would work with the newly elected member and focus on city business going forward.
