Council approved staff recommendations to procure and temporarily install commemorative artwork for Fernley’s 25th anniversary, to be unveiled July 1 with plans to relocate the pieces to a roundabout later pending design approval.
Staff presented two primary components: a bronze rearing horse offered by Art & Bronze (Camarillo, CA) for $21,000 (includes delivery), and a package from Twisted Steel to fabricate a rock base, bighorn sheep, an eagle and other elements estimated at $15,000 to $17,000 depending on the final additions. April Homi (executive administrative assistant) told council the bronze horse would be about 9 feet tall and weigh roughly 675–800 pounds; the tail and reinforced piping would be designed for stability and maintenance.
Jessica Murdoch, community development program manager, confirmed funding for the purchases is within the city’s $100,000 anniversary allocation. Councilman Torres moved to approve the temporary installation at the Main Street Art Park and authorized payment not to exceed $17,000 for the Twisted Steel invoice and $21,000 for the bronze horse; the motion carried 4–0.
If the roundabout improvement plan is approved later, staff said the city will prepare a concrete pad and pursue donated contractor labor where possible for the permanent installation. Staff also announced preorders for commemorative coins tied to the anniversary.
