Duncanville ISD board accepts resignations, swears in new trustee and sets process to fill vacancies

The Duncanville Independent School District Board of Trustees accepted trustee resignations, swore in a newly elected trustee and directed staff to begin an appointment process to fill two open seats.

Vice President Janet Veracruz opened the meeting and turned the oath ceremony to Jody Lofton, who administered the oath of office to Duran Belton, who stated on the record, “I, Duran Belton,” as he was sworn in as trustee for Place 4.

Shortly after recognitions, a sitting trustee announced they must resign because they are moving outside the district and reflected on 14 years of service. The board formally accepted that resignation.

Trustee (mover) proposed that the board use the appointment process to select candidates to fill the trustee vacancies left by two recent resignations and directed the superintendent to set a special meeting to deliberate and appoint successors. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously by electronic vote, 6–0.
