CSISD staff recommend Savvas enVisionPLUS for K–8 and McGraw Hill for precalculus; board action set for June 10

Jennifer Smith, the district’s K–12 mathematics coordinator, presented the district’s vendor review and committee process and recommended Savvas enVisionPLUS Texas Mathematics for most grade bands and McGraw Hill Texas Math for precalculus.
Smith described a multi‑stage review under House Bill 1605 that used State Board of Education rubrics and a local Committee for Review of Instructional Materials (CRIM) made up of about 34 teachers plus 16 instructional coaches. She said the committee prioritized 100% TEKS alignment, supports for differentiation, digital and print access, family resources in English and Spanish, and low‑floor/high‑ceiling tasks that allow differentiated entry points for students.
"We had three vendors for each group," Smith said. "Kinder through fourth, fifth through sixth, seventh through eighth, algebra 1, geometry and algebra 2 all selected Savvas enVisionPLUS Texas Mathematics as their number one recommendation." She said precalculus had only one viable vendor in the review pool, McGraw Hill.
Smith explained why the district is requesting two years of access: state curriculum guidance could shift after an ad hoc State Board of Education review expected to report in November 2026, so the two‑year purchase is intended to bridge the district through that process. The district would buy two years of digital platform access, student consumable workbooks for K–8, class sets of high‑school textbooks for algebra 1/geometry/algebra 2/precalculus, and printed editions for teachers.
Trustees asked whether the recommended materials carried the state’s "bluebonnet" (state‑owned) designation; Smith said the recommended Savvas and McGraw Hill products are State Board‑approved but not the state‑owned Bluebonnet set, and that Savvas expects its Spanish K–6 edition to be approved next year; in the interim Savvas offered a Spanish copy for each English purchase to support the district’s dual‑language program.
What’s next: Smith said the board will see a formal action item and purchase request at the June 10 special board meeting; no vote was taken at the workshop.
