The Planning & Zoning Board unanimously recommended approval on May 20 of a conditional‑use amendment to allow Giralda Preschool to add a kindergarten program within its existing facility at 320 Geraldo Avenue.
Applicant Maria Puccino (speaker 16) said the kindergarten would serve 10 students in a 436‑square‑foot art room and would not increase the facility’s approved maximum capacity of 174 students. Greg Southern (speaker 24), the planning official, confirmed staff’s view that the amendment would not increase square footage or intensity and recommended approval with operational conditions.
Staff’s recommended conditions require that all vehicular drop‑off and pick‑up occur inside the parking garage, prohibit curbside Heralda Avenue drop‑offs, and stagger arrival times between daycare and kindergarten by at least 30 minutes to reduce congestion. Puccino told the board most families walk or bike to the school and agreed to the conditions.
The board moved to recommend approval and recorded a unanimous vote. The recommendation will be forwarded to the City Commission consistent with the city’s conditional‑use review process.
