Commissioners set $25,000 minimum bid for sale of foreclosed Perquimans County parcel

Assistant County Manager Brandon Shoaf told the Board the county’s tax liability on the parcel was $3,469.45 and that the county’s current tax value for the parcel is $30,000. Commissioner Kathryn M. Treiber urged the Board not to accept a sale price below current tax value and specifically suggested a $25,000 minimum opening bid. Commissioner Timothy J. Corprew moved to place the property on GovDeals with a $25,000 minimum bid; the motion was seconded by Charles Woodard and approved unanimously.
The resolution presented by staff declared the parcel surplus and authorized the County Manager to proceed with sale steps, including publication and posting requirements under state law. The Board reserved the right to reject bids, and the county will proceed with the statutory advertisement and sale process on GovDeals.
Next steps include publishing the required notice and opening the property for bids on GovDeals; the county retains discretion to accept or reject offers.
