Perquimans County accepts $442,777 NC 911 grant for radio and console replacement

The Perquimans County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Dec. 1 a $442,777.26 grant award from the North Carolina 911 Board to replace radio equipment and consoles at the Perquimans-Gates public safety answering point (PSAP).
Emergency Services Director Jonathan Nixon told the Board the award will fund five Motorola AXS console positions, a base radio to serve those consoles and one portable backup radio for the dispatch floor. Chairman Wallace E. Nelson and the Board authorized Nixon to sign the grant agreement on behalf of the county.
Commissioner Kathryn M. Treiber seconded the motion to accept the grant; the Board’s approval allows the county to proceed with vendor procurement and equipment installation under grant terms. The motion passed unanimously.
The grant covers hardware for the dispatch floor and does not by itself describe ongoing maintenance or staffing costs; those will be handled through standard procurement and budget processes.
