Summary

Mr. Weaver told the Safety & Operations Committee he is recommending a two‑year extension of the district’s existing APC security contract and outlined the expected costs and terms.
"Our actual cost per year is about $350,000 for the APC coverage," Weaver said, adding the contract covers crossing guards, routine daily coverage and after‑school activities and amounts to about 13,000 hours of coverage annually.
Weaver described a proposed hourly increase: "an increase from $27 per hour to $29 per hour for $26.27 and the second year of this contract going to $31 per hour," and said the first‑year increase had been included in preliminary budget planning. He also told the committee that moving billing onto the FMX system this year has reduced distortions in district accounting because outside groups renting facilities are billed directly.
Board members asked whether the district could lock in a multi‑year rate. Weaver said staff could approach APC to explore rate‑locking but that the district planned to approve a short extension while doing a deeper procurement review next year, including the possibility of issuing a new RFP. Committee members pressed on historical increases (the prior three‑year contract increased by $1 per year) and whether APC now absorbs training costs. Weaver said APC has agreed to have employees pay for required training rather than passing those costs back to the district.
The committee did not record a formal motion or vote in the committee meeting transcript. Action recorded for committee tracking: recommendation to extend the APC contract; no final board action captured at this meeting.
