County signs fire‑tower agreement with Georgia Forestry Commission; reappoints two to Lower Chattahoochee transit board

The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County approved a resolution authorizing a fire‑tower contract with the Georgia Forestry Commission and reappointed two members to the Lower Chattahoochee Regional Transportation Authority (LRCTA).
The forestry agreement, adopted at a June meeting and authorized for signature by Chairman Charles Coffey, caps the county’s payment at $4,738.58 for the contract period July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025. Under the agreement, Forestry will assign a fire‑tower operator employed as a temporary day laborer (no more than 40 hours per week) and will submit billing at the end of the contract period. The contract contains a 30‑day termination clause and specifies notice addresses for both parties.
The Commission also approved two reappointments to the LRCTA: Commissioner Timothy Biddle was reappointed for a term expiring June 30, 2028, and Commissioner Gerald Douglas was reappointed for a term expiring June 30, 2026. The resolutions were recorded as approved by the Commission.
County Attorney Bin Minter also noted at the meetings that ordinance drafting is underway for a locally appointed Board of Elections following a state law change that removed probate judges as election superintendents.
The forestry agreement and reappointment resolutions were approved by unanimous vote at the relevant meetings and are recorded in the minutes.
