District outlines summer programs, registration and a small rise in student lunch cost

District staff provided parents and board members with operational updates at the May 19 meeting, including summer-school enrollment, registration instructions, and a lunch renewal notice.
A staff presenter (speaker 6) said summer school will run June 9–26 and currently has 128 students enrolled, roughly 22 fewer than in past years; extended-school-year services will run the same dates and include 20 students. The presenter noted Norwood Park's subsidized summer camp will run July 21–Aug. 1 and explained how families should complete online registration through PowerSchool and the district's new "my school box" fee system, including partial-payment instructions.
On school meals, staff said the district received the state's lunch renewal and that the district cost per lunch will be $5.27 next year; families will pay $4.60 per lunch (up from $4.48 this year). Staff said feedback on the current vendor, Organic Life, has been positive and that the district intends to go out to bid for lunch services next fall.
