Board approves $8,410 materials-testing contract for fire training building; declines Safe Streets grant this year

Fluvanna County authorized a professional services agreement with TRC Engineers, Inc. to provide construction materials testing for the county’s Fire Training Building on May 6, approving Project Agreement #07 at a not-to-exceed cost of $8,410.
County staff told the board the TRC scope includes field observation and testing for earthworks and foundations, concrete and asphalt pavement testing, and project management and administration services. Funding for the work will come from the county’s previously allocated $550,000 for the project. The motion to approve the agreement passed 5-0.
During the New Business discussion, Todd Fortune, Director of Planning, noted that traffic improvements in the Move Safely Study are eligible for the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant but that the program requires a 20% local match. The board declined to pursue an SS4A project in this funding round.
