Vernon County committee discusses alternative uses for opioid-settlement funds; formal proposal due next month

Members of the Vernon County Opioid Prevention and Steering Committee spent part of the Oct. 8 meeting discussing possible alternatives for allocating opioid-settlement funds beyond grant awards.
Administrative Coordinator Cassandra Hanan invited Jill Bender, Human Services Director, to outline county Human Services needs. Bender referenced Appendix E and identified items (6–10) that she said could be supported by settlement funds, including services for parents with babies; she said she will prepare a formal proposal for the committee’s next meeting. Hanan said the committee hopes to find flexibility within the opioid funds to set aside money for direct Human Services use or county programs.
At the same meeting, Hanan reported the committee’s opioid-settlement fund balance as $364,894.02, unchanged from the prior month. No formal vote was taken on reallocating funds; the exchange was recorded as discussion and a direction to prepare a proposal.
The committee placed the topic on the agenda for Nov. 12 for further consideration and potential action.
