A resident urged council to support a Greenway Trail easement across the K-25 redevelopment site, noting existing trailheads and bridges across Poplar Creek that could be preserved to create direct greenway connections. “With an easement across the site, this would offer an opportunity for companies that locate there to have greenways right out right out their door,” the speaker said.
Several council members and staff discussed complaints and enforcement related to Noble Metals, where officials have observed additional stored blade materials and issued citations. Staff reported citations had been issued to the administrative hearing officer and that TDEC had conducted inspections and a compliance meeting; the city has requested TDEC include city staff in compliance efforts. Council members described aerial photos showing increased storage and requested further coordination with state regulators; staff said they would ask legal for opinions about stopping overweight trucks on city roads if materials transit the city.
Council pledged to continue applying pressure with TDEC and to pursue coordination across agencies to resolve compliance concerns. The public also promoted an All Abilities Fair at the Civic Center and other community events.
Next steps: staff will continue coordination with TDEC, monitor Noble Metals site, and share TDEC reports with council; council will evaluate greenway easement possibilities in redevelopment discussions.
