The Pipestone Area School District board voted unanimously to pay $970 to cover lodging and other costs for student Brady Dunn to attend the Minnesota All‑State Band. A presenter told the board the selection is the highest musical honor for students in the state and the first time in more than 40 years a percussionist from Pipestone earned a spot.
"This is the highest honor that individuals can earn for as a musician in the state of Minnesota," the presenter said, urging the district to cover the trip costs. Board members asked clarifying questions about lodging and travel; the presenter confirmed the student’s mother would provide transportation and that lodging would be for five days.
The request was moved and seconded and passed with all members saying "aye." The approved $970 covers the costs associated with attending, the presenter said.
Board members offered congratulations after the vote. The board did not attach additional conditions to the payment; staff will process the reimbursement or payment in the district’s usual manner.
