EDC presents options for Poor House Tract; Board asked for feedback by May 8

On April 30 EDC Director Bob Bullard presented potential uses for the county-owned Poor House Tract and asked the Board for direction to refine the model.
Bullard said the EDC views the parcel as one of the most promising county-owned sites and outlined concepts including a community health campus and other development options. Chairman James W. Brann said a community health campus would be needed but cautioned the County should identify potential partners willing to provide services. Several supervisors questioned whether the site’s location off the main road and its narrow access make it appropriate for certain uses.
County Planner Mr. McKenzie displayed a buildable-area map showing flatter portions of the tract and septic suitability analysis. Supervisor Al Fisher and others asked which options would require a sewer system rather than septic; Vice Chairman Williams flagged infrastructure and economic-incentive questions the County would need to resolve to attract investment.
Bullard requested Board feedback by May 8, 2026 so the EDC can refine the model and prepare a fuller presentation for the Board.
