Superintendent outlines summer projects, insurance outlook and June amended-budget hearing

Superintendent Timothy Janisch briefed the Sandwich CUSD 430 board on finance, facilities and near-term administrative work at the April 21 meeting.

Janisch said Mr. Ryan provided a multi-month financial snapshot and that a public hearing on the Amended Budget is set for the June 16 board meeting. On insurance, Janisch told the board preliminary numbers from FNIC indicate a tentative 9.5% increase from FY26; the district and the teachers' association are reviewing plan details before any final action.

On facilities, Janisch reviewed summer project planning: draft drawings for a girls' locker room at the high school, final drawings for the boys' locker room, pending drawings for a new event entrance, final designs for a secure middle-school entrance and planning for a Prairie View gym contract that would launch subsequent HED office and elevator work. He said the district's opening goal is August 28 for related spaces, contingent on contractor timelines and contract signatures. Janisch asked the board to expect more detailed cost estimates and contract documents in coming meetings.

Janisch also summarized a district comparison of local tax-dollar generation and said he would expand the list of neighboring districts for further context. He listed key upcoming dates including Staff Recognition Night, Senior Awards, graduation on May 17, and the June 16 Amended Budget hearing.

Next steps: finalize insurance negotiations with the teachers' association and present refined cost figures, publish revised calendar after ISBE-driven adjustment, and return contract drawings and cost estimates for board consideration ahead of summer construction.
