Sandwich CUSD 430 board approves revised 2026–27 calendar, Title I plan and routine expenditures

At a regular meeting April 21 at Sandwich Middle School, the Sandwich Community School District 430 Board of Education approved a set of routine and policy items, including a revised 2026–27 school calendar, a districtwide Title I plan and the March meeting minutes and expenditures.
The board voted unanimously to "approve the expenditures, investment, compensation, and minutes of the March 17, 2026, regular board meeting," a motion introduced by Secretary Ms. Saitta and seconded by Mr. O'Neil. The board also approved a calendar revision after the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) identified an extra required day; the change gives both the Friday before and the Monday after spring break off in the coming school year (motion by Mr. O'Neil, second by Ms. Oropeza).
The board approved a Title I waiver and plan to include all schools for 2026–27, with funds directed to curriculum purchases, professional development and some staffing costs. "Title I will be used for Curriculum, PD, and some staffing expenses," the motion record states; the motion was moved by Mr. Kubisak and seconded by Mrs. Hysjulien and passed unanimously.
The board entered closed session to address personnel, collective bargaining, student discipline, litigation and property discussions and later reconvened. After returning to open session, the board approved the closed session minutes from March 17 and then approved the Personnel Report pending completion of required HR protocols and Illinois State Board of Education documentation.
Student representatives and staff updates accompanied the votes. Senior Rachel Kraber delivered the student board report, highlighting spring activities, a National Honor Society blood drive with more than 50 participants and the school's emphasis on inclusion: "what I admire most about Sandwich High School is its commitment to inclusion. This is a place where students are not only welcomed, but where they truly belong."
What the board will do next: the district set a public hearing for the Amended Budget at its June 16 meeting and will bring Press Policy 121 back for a vote at next month's meeting. Several personnel hires and resignations were listed in the meeting packet and were approved as part of the personnel actions announced after closed session.
