Students honored for drone, robotics and archery achievements at Lawrence County board meeting

The Lawrence County School System Board used part of its May 19 meeting to recognize student achievements in drone competitions, robotics and archery, and to highlight student-produced communications used across the district.
South Lawrence School teams placed at the Ready, Set, Drone regional competition in Huntsville and received trophies for teamwork missions and an online career-readiness challenge. Coach Dylan Cotton was identified as the coach for the three South Lawrence teams; the coach was not present at the meeting.
Lee Sisk, welding instructor at Lawrence County High School, introduced Chance Keating and described Keating's archery accomplishments: second place at the National Archery Shooters Association Pro Am event in Minden, Louisiana, multiple consecutive Alabama state-champion titles and several industry sponsorships. "I am honored to recognize Chance Keating for his outstanding accomplishments in competitive archery," Sisk said.
Summertown High School principal Mr. Burdesen introduced juniors Brinley Williams and Kylie Richardson as student ambassadors and shared a short video of their social-media work, which included school announcements, a gun-safety video produced with a school resource officer that will be distributed across the county and a segment called "Eagle Talk." The principal said the students produced content that drew tens of thousands of views and earned statewide attention from other schools seeking advice about organizing student communications.
Why it matters: The recognitions highlight career and technical education (CTE), extracurricular STEM opportunities and student leadership in Lawrence County schools. Board members praised the students and encouraged community attendance at upcoming student competitions.
