Albany High School principal Jody Commerford told the board that the district has seen notable subgroup improvements: the graduation rate for English language learners increased from 51 percent to 58 percent, and the rate for students with disabilities rose from 39 percent to 54 percent. "We're already developing our set plan for next year, and we're planning next steps for data teaming," Commerford said, describing weekly data review and targeted interventions.
Board members pressed for details on 5‑ and 6‑year completion and how the district supports students who need additional time. Commerford said the five‑ and six‑year figures show increases in completion and that the district uses MTSS and targeted progress monitoring to support seniors. The superintendent and principals also described outreach efforts to locate students and reduce dropout risk, noting that some students move or face immigration‑related barriers to attendance.
Officials said they will continue to monitor subgroup data, refine MTSS approaches and report back with results from scheduled audits and data teams.
