District to seek $29,225 salary study covering all employee groups; board to consider vote next week

The Cary CCSD 26 committee heard a recommendation Aug. 18 to contract Gallagher to perform a districtwide salary study covering all employee groups, including paraprofessionals, nurses and administrative assistants.
Dr. Thomas told the board the district had asked Gallagher to re-run the study to include a previously omitted employee group and that the firm agreed to honor an earlier price. "The total cost, by the way, for all the employee groups is $29,225," she said. She described the study as a comprehensive review of salaries, benefits and job descriptions that compares district positions to market benchmarks and will help craft multiyear compensation recommendations.
Dr. Thomas estimated the work would take about five months, possibly up to six, with the prework, data analysis and wrap-up phases. Trustees discussed whether to proceed now or delay based on economic volatility and whether the public release of results could affect morale. Several board members argued the new administrative team needs the data to begin strategic planning; others expressed concern about timing and the expense.
Dr. Thomas said any report produced by Gallagher would be a public document. The committee agreed to place the salary-study contract on the consent agenda for the next board meeting for a vote.
