Superintendent highlights $36 million in scholarships, dual-credit gains and a paid Metals Hub internship

Superintendent Missus Roesler reported to the Bremen CHSD 228 Board on May 19 that graduating students had secured $35,983,429 in scholarship offers, and she highlighted district efforts on dual-credit coursework and career pathways.
Roesler said administrators will continue to prepare students for final exams and summer school, and she thanked staff for running four successful graduation ceremonies. In operations and technology remarks, staff reported nearly 9,000 YouTube views of graduation ceremonies and described new secure entrances using metal detectors for safety.
A cabinet member presenting teaching-and-learning indicators told the board that 151 seniors earned the community-service badge by completing at least 25 hours; 54% (728 seniors) participated in two or more co-curricular or athletic activities; and 41% (551 seniors) earned a program-of-study indicator by achieving a C or better in two pathway courses. The top dual-credit earners at each school averaged 17 college credits, with one senior earning as many as 25 credits.
On career pathways, the district has partnered with the Southland Development Authority on a Metals Hub manufacturing career-readiness program that will place students in local manufacturing companies for an eight-week paid experience at $16 per hour (up to 160 hours per student). The district received 15 applicants for eight available spots in District 228 and is finalizing placements.
Roesler also noted the district will host student listening sessions this summer and next year to gather viewpoints on integrating AI into classrooms and to guard against “learning debt” that could arise from overreliance on AI tools.
The superintendent closed by reminding the board of a committee-of-the-whole meeting July 14 and an upcoming celebration to mark the opening of the new ad center.
