Pittsburg County economic board approves routine business, discusses special-event insurance and alcohol concessions after festival incidents

The Pittsburg County Economic Development Authority approved its agenda, minutes and claims at a regular meeting on May 11, 2026, and spent the New Business portion of the session discussing insurance and vendor arrangements for upcoming events.
Chairman Ross Selman called the meeting to order. Trustees Ross Selman, Mike Haynes and Charlie Rogers unanimously approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from May 4, 2026. Selman moved, and Charlie Rogers seconded, a motion to acknowledge and approve claims and fiscal transactions; that motion also passed with all three trustees voting yes.
Lauren Ragan, a meeting participant, asked the board about holding a bull-fighting event and reported security issues that occurred during the recent Italian Festival, saying a woman was reported shoplifting from vendors and that two juveniles were involved in a fight. Ragan told the board the May 30 and July 4 events will need special-event insurance.
The trustees discussed procedures for alcohol service at county events and whether to solicit bids for those services. Rogers asked whether other county facilities had been consulted; Haynes said Canadian County uses a contracted approach for alcohol and concessions. Ragan said she would contact Canadian County to review how that county structures its contracts.
No formal motion to approve the proposed bull-fighting event or to begin a procurement process for alcohol concessions was recorded in the minutes. The board did move, however, to adjourn; Selman made the motion, Haynes seconded, and the vote was unanimous.
A purchase-order listing attached to the minutes shows fiscal transactions for the Economic Development Trust totaling $11,445.30 for the May 11, 2026 date. The minutes do not record any final decisions about event approval, insurance vendor selection, or alcohol contracting; trustees directed follow-up and information gathering.
