At the start of the meeting the council recognized Mental Health Awareness Month and invited Fene Croft, a licensed clinical professional counselor and founder of Sab Mental Health and Wellness, to speak briefly about mental-health awareness.
Croft discussed how stress and emotional health affect daily life, urged people to identify their personal "ground zero" or baseline mood, and encouraged early care — therapy, supportive groups or medical attention — before problems escalate. "Encouraging earlier care is really important when it comes to mental health," she told the council, and listed signs people can watch for, including changes in sleep, appetite, energy and social withdrawal.
Croft said culturally responsive care and normalizing conversations about mental health help communities and workplaces. After the presentation she invited council members and residents to talk with her about services and workshops available through her practice.
