The Borough Highlands mayor and council on May 20 approved a resolution (R26-127) supporting the Association of the United States Navy’s Operation Reach Out program, a veterans- and service-member-focused nonprofit that seeks to connect military families and provide peer support.
A council member who met with organization leaders described the program’s mission: to help military and veteran families connect with one another and build support networks in town, especially for families who do not participate in traditional veterans’ organizations. The council member said Highlands is the first town in the country to sign on with the group and outlined a short survey the borough will distribute via the borough website, social channels and paper copies at community hubs to identify families who want to be contacted by the program.
Council members expressed support for partnering with the VFW and American Legion and for making the survey available through local community centers and neighborhood contacts. The clerk moved and the council approved the resolution by voice vote.
The resolution directs staff to distribute outreach materials and to coordinate with community partners; the transcript records the council’s approval but does not include a roll-call tally for the vote.
