Boone County hires 4‑H intern, approves two special liquor licenses; public commenters raise road and personnel concerns

The Boone County Board of Commissioners approved an employment contract to jointly hire a summer 4‑H intern and granted two special designated liquor licenses at its May 11 meeting in Albion.
Extension Educator Steve Pritchard presented a hiring recommendation and the board approved employing Melany Preister of Albion as a summer 4‑H intern from May 18 through July 24, 2026 with total compensation of approximately $3,350, to be shared between Boone County and Boone County 4‑H. The board authorized the chairman to sign the contract.
The board also approved two Applications for Special Designated Liquor Licenses from Boone County Raceway (Boone County Ag Society) for wedding receptions at Creek Road Barn in Newman Grove on May 30, 2026 and June 20, 2026. Motions to approve both SDLs carried unanimously.
During the public comment period, Rob Robinson raised road-related concerns; Sheriff Denny Johnson addressed department personnel matters; and County Clerk Kate Noble discussed courthouse water testing. The transcript records the comments but does not show further action tied to them.
