Oregon Natural Resources Education Fund awards Philomath High forestry program $2,500

Madeline Thompson Rudolph, who said she works for Thompson Timber Company and was representing the Oregon Natural Resources Education Fund, told the Philomath School District 17J board the nonprofit awarded a $2,500 grant to the Philomath High School forestry program.
The grant is intended to buy equipment and materials for hands-on forestry instruction, Rudolph said. She added that Philomath’s program has received support from the fund for many years and is often cited as a model for other high school forestry programs across Oregon.
Board members asked whether the grant was a direct award and what items would be purchased; Rudolph said the award is administered through the Oregon Community Foundation and is application-based. She told the board the high school has already ordered equipment through Siegling Nursery Equipment and Supply and that some recent awards elsewhere funded GPS mapping software and greenhouse supplies.
The board thanked Rudolph and acknowledged the role of local business partners in sustaining district programs. The superintendent later recognized Thompson Timber and the Oregon Natural Resources Education Fund in the meeting’s closing remarks for supporting local career and technical education programs.
Looking ahead, the district will coordinate with the high school to confirm receipt of materials and include the grant in program inventory and reporting.
