Board adjudicates provisional ballots, precertifies and certifies May 19 primary

The Camden County election board adjudicated provisional ballots from the May 19 general primary, directed staff to process accepted ballots, precertified the results and then certified the election.

Election staff reported a total of 8,018 voters in the May 19 primary: 3,873 voted on election day and 4,145 voted in advance in person or by mail. Staff said there were three provisional ballots and five military ballots were mailed to service members, with two returned and three outstanding.

During adjudication staff recommended rejecting the provisional ballot for Anthony Battle because he was registered in another county and had not provided documentation to cure the provisional status. The board voted to reject the Battle ballot. Staff recommended accepting provisional ballots for Robin Williams and Susan McNamara, who have the same street name but reside in different municipalities; the board voted to accept those two provisional ballots and instructed staff to process them through the elections management system.

Following adjudication, Vice Chair Ray Holland moved to precertify the election results; the board approved and subsequently moved to certify the May 19 general primary and nonpartisan election. Paperwork for certification was prepared for signatures. The board also voted to approve the June 16 runoff early-voting schedule and reviewed upcoming calendar dates including the risk-limiting audit and runoff election dates.

Staff noted three military ballots remain outstanding and the board recessed to allow staff time to process accepted provisional ballots before reconvening to complete certification paperwork.
