Hillsborough County commissioners recognized six students with the Board of County Commissioners Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards, known as the YEA Awards, during their Oct. 15 meeting, the county's communications office said.
"The board recognized the accomplishments of 6 outstanding students as they were presented the Board of County Commissioners Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards, also known as the YEA Awards," Katie, a Hillsborough County communications and digital media staff member, said in the meeting recap. She noted this was the fifteenth year of the program and that the awards honor young people for academics, community service and the performing arts.
Recipients included middle- and high-school students recognized across categories such as leadership, volunteer or community service, and success despite difficult odds. The communications summary did not list the students' names; the county typically publishes recipient names in awards materials or a subsequent press release.
