Heidi Harrison said the conference accepted House changes to steam lines and added $25,000 to the statehouse entryway line to fund additional safety work after the architect advised that some work remained undone. "The 25,000 is to look at, ways to provide additional safety," she said, and noted she had emphasized safety concerns for the second floor when meeting with the architect.
On a separate property matter, Harrison recommended rescinding a prior legislative authority to sell the Penn State Street building, a historic structure near the Capital Complex used by state attorneys. She said the idea of sale had been discussed previously but that flood impacts and current state facility needs made rescinding the sale authority prudent. "It would be better to rescind that authority," she said, adding that the Legislature could return authority later if circumstances warranted.
Conferees agreed to refine amendments and explanations and to check with agencies and floor activity before finalizing any change in the conference package.
