The Hinckley Town Council reviewed the tentative FY 2027 budget for the General, Water and Sewer funds on May 7 and identified capital priorities for staff to refine before a public hearing tentatively scheduled for June 18, 2026.
Council members prioritized replacing the backhoe and delaying purchase of a new truck. The group estimated approximately $100,000 for a used backhoe, with cost shares proposed as: Water $30,000; Sewer $30,000; General $30,000; and Class C Roads $10,000. Council members directed staff to update the tentative budget to reflect the priority and to return the revised budget for council review.
Mayor Alan Miller proposed establishing a Youth City Council to teach parliamentary procedure; the council agreed to add a $500 line item in the tentative budget for the program. Council also discussed beginning work on a dark-sky ordinance as a Town Code update and noted the need to identify and upsize aging water lines and meter setters installed in 1968.
Town Clerk Tresa Taylor said she will update the tentative budget document and the council will review the changes at a forthcoming meeting. The clerk and council indicated a public hearing to receive public comment on the proposed budget will be scheduled before the statutory June 22 deadline; the meeting record lists the public hearing tentatively for Thursday, June 18, 2026. No formal budget adoption vote was recorded at this meeting.
