Monterey Airport outlines terminal rebuild, sustainability goals and timeline

Monterey Peninsula Airport Executive Director Chris Morello briefed the Pacific Grove City Council on the airport’s master plan and terminal reconstruction project.
Morello said the airport has secured approximately $130 million in federal grants toward a broader $200 million safety-enhancement and terminal program and that the airport is balancing grants, a $50 million loan and a local match requirement for some elements. The replacement terminal will include five gates, passenger boarding bridges, a LEED Platinum and "net-zero energy ready" design goal, expanded passenger circulation and sustainable construction elements (mass timber, rainwater capture and reduced-carbon concrete). The airport has already completed the new general-aviation ramp and aircraft-rescue facility and has begun steel erection for the terminal.
Morello said the terminal construction is scheduled to complete in mid-2027 (summer 2027) and that phased parking and circulation work may temporarily disrupt normal access. Council members thanked Morello for the overview and noted the airport’s role in emergency medical services and regional connectivity.
