EDC outlines FY2027 budget priorities and previews EV charging vendor

EDC staff presented proposed priorities for the fiscal year 2027 budget and briefed the board on a prospective EV charging provider.
Staff described several proposed increases for FY2027: creation of a marketing/administrative position, a $40,000 one-time website redesign to be covered from fund balance, and larger line items for recruitment and retention travel (including domestic and international prospecting trips). Staff said the proposals will be submitted to the finance department on June 1 and will return to the EDC in full for line-item review and a vote.
On partnerships and funding, staff recommended pursuing grant opportunities and suggested that any additional EDC funding commitments be considered after finance projections are available. Staff also reported they are finalizing a memorandum of understanding with the city clarifying that some economic development staff will be city employees paid out of EDC funds; a redline draft is expected for the June meeting.
Separately, staff updated the board on an EV charging solution encountered at a trade show. The vendor offered a turnkey installation that would require "no money out of our pocket" and no minimum station count, and staff scheduled a detailed follow-up briefing with the vendor before placing it on a future agenda.
Next steps: staff will submit budget proposals to finance on June 1, circulate the full proposed budget and MOU redline for the EDC's review, and return with a vendor presentation on EV chargers.
