O'Fallon Veterans Commission approves agenda and minutes, readies Memorial Day and community events

The O'Fallon Veterans Commission on May 19 approved its meeting agenda and the minutes from its previous meeting and moved on to routine business and event planning.
Commissioner Lori Stock moved to approve the meeting agenda "as written," and Commissioner Judy Northcutt seconded; the chair called the question and members approved the motion by voice vote. A subsequent motion to accept the prior meeting minutes was seconded by Commissioner Pat Vogel and likewise approved by voice vote.
In presiding officer remarks, the chair reported that AVITS 1—a 45‑foot suicide‑prevention and PTSD awareness bus operated by an AVITS program originating in California—visited O'Fallon the previous Friday and hosted a news conference. The chair said the visit aimed to raise awareness of suicide prevention and PTSD resources.
Commissioners reviewed logistics for Memorial Day events in the coming days: a ceremony at the walk at 11 a.m., several other local services and a Bowie service scheduled at 2 p.m. The chair said he will serve as a keynote speaker at a county event. Commissioners agreed to distribute Operation 0 brochures at Memorial Day activities.
Commissioners also reviewed community outreach: Pattonville High School requested a color guard for graduation; Worldwide Technologies asked the Marine Corps League to provide a color guard for its Memorial Day ceremony; the Elk's Lodge plans a Flag Day ceremony on June 14 and requested organizations to provide flag carriers; and the commission discussed whether the museum will provide a float for the Fourth of July parade.
The commission highlighted the third annual car show at Lakeside 370 Park as a notable fundraiser. Members said the event has a capacity of about 250 vehicles, doors open at 10 a.m., judging is at 2 p.m., and proceeds benefit local veterans organizations; the show was reported as nearly sold out.
The Veterans Assistance Office was reported to be moving to a new east‑side lobby office within a couple of weeks. Commissioners noted the commission's bank balance had not changed since recent coin purchases and estimated remaining funds between about $1,200 and $1,800.
