Committee members noted many policies have not been reviewed since 2011–2013 and proposed a rolling tracker (a shared spreadsheet) to group policies by section, identify the most outdated items and calendar reviews. One committee member said the tracker would allow the subcommittee to "plop" the next set of 10–15 policies into an agenda for efficient review, while items that require more extensive debate would go straight to the full school committee.
The subcommittee discussed meeting cadence and agreed to try meeting before full school committee meetings — a short session from 5:00 to 5:50 p.m. — and to use occasional Wednesday morning meetings as needed. The group agreed to try the schedule through December and revisit it during budget season. The chair and administration will coordinate and place selected uncontroversial updates on the agenda between the subcommittee and full committee.
Formal business handled at the meeting included approval of two sets of minutes (April 4 and April 7) and the nomination of Lisa Martin as chairperson of the policy subcommittee for the 2026–27 school year. A motion to adjourn carried and the meeting ended.
Next step: the subcommittee will review a list of prioritized policies and reconvene June 16 before the full school committee meeting.
