Brooklyn Park teacher warns board of tar-like leaks, mold and safety concerns

She told the board the problem has persisted for years despite complaints and that the only visible response has been repeated tar patches. "There have been over 40 cases of tar put on the roof just this year alone," she said.
Richmond said the leaks have led to concerns about mold, damage to technology and learning materials, slipping hazards, and interruptions to instruction. She said she was placing the public on notice about potential health and safety risks and asked the board to consider the pictures and student work she provided.
President Dent thanked Richmond and asked that materials be given to the board assistant for follow-up. Under the board's public-comment procedures, concerns raised in comment are typically referred to the superintendent and staff for review; the transcript records that public comments will be forwarded for staff follow-up.
