Bloomington High students present academics, athletics and activities to Colton Joint Unified board

Isabella Medina, an ASB leader at Bloomington High School, told the Colton Joint Unified School District Board on May 21 that the school recently held Newcomer Day and AVID recognition ceremonies, celebrated senior scholarship winners and completed CAST testing with support for students and staff. "BHS recently celebrated Newcomer Day, recognizing and welcoming students who are new to our school community and country," Medina said during the board's school presentation.
Elias Lopez, a BHS sophomore, reported athletic accomplishments: varsity baseball finished 22-7 and went 12-0 in San Andreas League play, volleyball earned all-league honors and track athlete Dominic Buentes advanced to CIF Southern Section competition. "The varsity baseball team has had an outstanding 2026 season, finishing 22 to 7 overall," Lopez said, noting team batting averages and playoff qualifications.
Jackie Hassell, junior class treasurer, described student activities including a new ASB TV segment, prom events, senior celebrations and a school rally. She also recapped the campus's participation in the Every 15 Minutes program, a California Highway Patrol safety simulation held earlier in April. "It was a powerful and eye opening experience for every student," Hassell said.
Board members praised the students' presentation and encouraged continued involvement. Board President Flores said the presentations are "the highlights of our board meetings every month." Several board members, including Fuentes and Harrow, congratulated the students on their poise and community outreach.
The students' presentation included thanks to external partners: Brian Pope and principal Dr. Romain recognized law enforcement, medical responders and community businesses that supported the Every 15 Minutes event. The board asked staff to follow up on program outcomes and took a scheduled photo with the student presenters.
The district noted several upcoming senior and recognition events; the presentation concluded with applause and board appreciation.
