Dolton officers join 'Cop on a Rooftop' fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Illinois

Dolton police participated this past weekend in a "Cop on a Rooftop" fundraiser at a Dunkin' to support the law enforcement torch run for Special Olympics Illinois, a village staff member said. Officers stationed on the rooftop and on the ground greeted residents and sought donations for the charity.

The village staff member said the event was organized to raise money and to boost awareness and community support for Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their families. "It was about showing up for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois and the families who support them," the staff member said, adding that the visible presence was intended to strengthen relationships between officers and residents.

A participant working at the site described the fundraising logistics. "All the money that you donated goes straight to the Special Olympics," the participant said, and noted that hats were sold for $15 and coffee for $10; donors were offered free coffee or donuts with any donation. The staff member said officers spent time interacting with supporters to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Mayor Jason House and members of the board of trustees attended the event to show support and to stand alongside participating officers, the staff member said. Their presence, the staff member added, reinforced the spirit of unity behind the fundraiser.

The village statement concluded that Cop on a Rooftop in Dolton was a successful example of community partnership in action, and said the Village of Dolton is proud to support efforts that uplift others and strengthen relationships beyond the village. No formal actions or votes were taken during the event; it was presented as community outreach and fundraising for Special Olympics Illinois.
