The Environmental Resource Committee reported that the GreenWave festival held this year was broadly successful and agreed to stage the 2027 event on Saturday, May 1.
Amy, the event lead, said vendors and organizations praised the turnout, the committee collected email addresses for outreach, and several local groups benefited from funds raised (Amy reported roughly $200 for a Brunswick County nonprofit). Sponsors supplied giveaways: 120 muhly grasses and three donated trees; a recycling truck from GFL and an oyster demonstration were also noted as highlights.
The committee discussed sponsor strategy to avoid over-soliciting small businesses, proposed improving the town website and event visibility for future sponsor outreach, and recommended automating a contacts database so outreach can be coordinated. Members also reviewed possible 2027 dates (April and several May Saturdays) and, after discussion about weather and conflicts with Mother's Day, moved and unanimously approved May 1, 2027 as the festival date.
Subcommittees will follow up on vendor lists, sponsor assignments, educational outreach (school flyers and workshops), and logistics for next year.
Outcome: committee set the GreenWave 2027 date and directed subcommittee follow-up on sponsorship, vendor outreach and communications.
