Danville Town parks board approves minutes and financials, hears rec updates and introduces summer intern

The Danville Town Parks and Recreation board approved corrected meeting minutes and accepted the department’s financial report, and heard updates on summer programming, facility repairs and a new summer intern.
A motion to approve the minutes was made early in the meeting and carried by voice vote. Later, the Chair moved to accept the financial report, noting heavy pre-opening pool spending; the motion carried by voice vote.
Staff said the department hosted multiple community service workdays, including 82 National Honor Society students who mulched park areas and planted flowers. Staff also introduced Connor Beswick as a summer Parks and Recreation intern; Beswick said he studies sports management and will assist with pool and program activities this summer.
On facilities, staff gave a progress update on Blanton House repairs, including drainage work, a newly poured dumpster pad that requires a 30-day cure before enclosure work, copper gutter replacement and plans to design a barn at the property’s end. An updated HVAC quote is expected and staff said they will return with numbers before moving forward.
Staff also summarized pool preparations: swim lessons are scheduled to begin June 1 and a soft opening is planned; the department is adjusting to a new ORP-driven chemical system that replaces chlorine monitoring with oxidation-reduction potential readings and requires calibration to maintain acceptable ranges.
