Autauga County Commission approves routine business, personnel moves and $2,500 Semiquincentennial grant

Autauga County commissioners meeting May 5, 2026, approved routine county business, multiple personnel changes and a $2,500 Semiquincentennial Community Grant to support digital content related to America's 250th Anniversary.
Chairman Jay Thompson called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. The body recorded Commissioners Jay Thompson (Chairman), Rusty Jacksland, John L. Thrailkill, Bill Tatum and Terry Tanner as present, along with Treasurer/Administrator Scott Kramer, Deputy Treasurer/Administrator Audra Smith and County Attorney Kyle Shirley.
The commission unanimously approved the April 21, 2026 regular meeting minutes after a motion from Commissioner John L. Thrailkill and a second from Commissioner Bill Tatum. The board also unanimously approved invoices received through May 5 and authorized the chairman and treasurer/administrator to issue warrants for payment.
On the consent docket, the commission approved designated personnel to attend law-enforcement and training events, including Sheriff Criminal Patrol & Interview Techniques (May 11–12, Tuscaloosa), UAOT Level 1 (May 11–14, Prattville) and skid-car training in Pelham on July 9. That motion was made by Commissioner Rusty Jacksland and seconded by Commissioner Terry Tanner.
The commission approved Resolutions #2026-18 through #2026-40 recognizing recipients of the Autauga County Children's Policy Council’s "Character in Action" awards. The body unanimously passed a motion to nominate and approve Commissioner Rusty Jacksland to serve on the 2026 ACCA (Alabama Association of County Commissions) Legislative Committee.
Personnel actions approved by unanimous votes included a one-year, one-step pay increase for satisfactory service for Deputy Sheriff Darrius Matthews (date of hire: May 12, 2025) and acceptance of the resignations of Deputy Dreilon Smith, effective May 1, 2026, and full-time correctional officer William Brownlow, effective April 20, 2026; the commission authorized hiring replacements in both cases.
The commission approved an ABC license application noting change of applicant name and ownership only for Kumbh 25 INC. (doing business as United Citgo), 1719 Hwy 82 W., Prattville; the owner is listed as Bhaveshkumar Patel. Commissioners also approved hiring Blake Fancher as Operator I (grade 4, step 2) pending successful background and drug testing to replace a terminated employee, Austin Redden.
After suspending the rules to add the item to the agenda, the commission approved an application for a $2,500 Semiquincentennial Community Grant to produce digital content related to the nation's 250th anniversary. The motions to suspend the rules and to approve the grant passed by unanimous vote.
The meeting adjourned at 5:21 p.m.; the commission will reconvene Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
