County manager says Davie County moved back to Tier 3 in state ranking

County Manager Barnett told the Davie County Board of County Commissioners that the North Carolina Department of Commerce has moved Davie County back to Tier 3 status.
Barnett said the change was communicated to him just before Thanksgiving and described Tier 3 on the record as “less distressed than those in tier 2 and tier 1.” He told the board the official report would be released later in the month and suggested members might hear more about the change then.
Barnett framed the reclassification as a favorable indicator for the county’s relative economic standing. The manager’s report was included in the board packet for October; he advised commissioners to review the written report at their convenience. No budgetary or program actions tied to the reclassification were proposed during the meeting.
The board did not take formal action on the classification during the session; the county manager noted follow-up reporting would be available once the Department of Commerce issues its official documentation.
The board moved on to commissioner comments and other routine business following the report.
