The Harahan City Council approved a contract May 21 with All Star Electric to install decorative LED street lights along Colonial Club Drive between Jefferson Highway and Riverside Drive.
Councilman Chatelaine presented the measure, saying the parish is funding the project as a reimbursement to Harahan and that the work will provide LED fixtures on decorative poles with underground wiring. "The parish is funding this project for us... it's a reimbursement from the parish," Chatelaine said. Council members said the route is dark and the lights are needed for safety.
Council discussion clarified the work will be on the west side of the street and that the lights will be decorative LED fixtures. One council member praised the contract as "probably the best written, most professional contract I've seen Harahan issue." The council approved the resolution by voice vote.
Why it matters: the project addresses street-level safety on a corridor cited as dimly lit and is funded by parish reimbursements so it is not drawing from local capital in this instance.
Next steps: the mayor is authorized to sign the contract and staff will coordinate with Jefferson Parish and the contractor on schedule and installation details.
