Riverside board hears finance update, wins grants and tables Title I parent-engagement policy

The Riverside School District board received a budget and finance report, heard details of recent grant awards and staffing progress, approved two ESD contracts and an annual WIAA resolution, and tabled the second and final reading of a Title I parent-and-family engagement policy because packet typos had not been corrected.
An agency official who led the budget report said enrollment — the district’s largest revenue driver — is flat and that staff will present a proposed budget at the June regular meeting, one month earlier than usual. The presenter said the district’s Title I federal allocation was reduced by $70,000 this week and that staff expect updates on Title II and Title IV funding. "We did get cut $70,000 from the Title I funding," the agency official said.
Staff outlined several grant awards: a Washington FFA Foundation grant of $40,000 for a 12-passenger van; an indoor-air-quality study grant initially described at about $113,000 and later discussed at approximately $147,000; a $600,000 allocation toward chiller work; and an additional indoor-air-quality allocation mentioned near $150,000. Staff said these grants both fund immediate projects and make the district eligible for further Department of Commerce awards.
On motions and votes, the board approved the ESD 101 cooperative summary agreement and an ESD 101 technology services summary agreement (annual contracts that provide regional services such as shared databases and technology support). The board also approved an annual resolution delegating authority to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for athletics scheduling and postseason administration.
Separately, the board considered the second and final reading of policy 4130 (Title I Part A — parent and family engagement). A board member noted the document in the packet still contained typos flagged at the previous reading; staff indicated the wrong file may have been included. The board voted to table the final reading until corrected documents are provided; the motion carried.
