FDEDC reviews April finances, lists new downtown businesses and summer events

Aubrey presented the April financial report for the Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation: beginning fund balance $3,435,451; revenue for April $80,547; April expenditures $899; a staff services line of $1,003.33; ending fund balance $3,513,767; and an unencumbered balance of $3,417,241. A board member requested further clarification about the staff-services line and asked staff to provide a more detailed explanation before the board moves forward on related budget questions.
Aubrey also reported a cluster of new downtown businesses: PowerFit Eats at 214 S. Friendswood Drive received its final certificate of occupancy; Lucas & Lucas opened at 107 Shadwell; LPCS Counseling & Consulting has a Shadwell location; Everail Boutique opened at 607 S. Friendswood, Suite 19; and Ascend Solutions is at 311 S. Friendswood Drive. Members noted Parks and Recreation’s Concert in the Park series and summer evening events as continuing draws for downtown foot traffic.
Chair and members praised recent downtown events and asked staff to keep the board informed about event schedules and any budget impacts. The board did not approve new expenditures during the special meeting and asked staff to follow up on the staff-services expenditure item.
