Staff said the original estimated construction cost rose because of soil and administrative issues and that the city seeks to recapture just under $88,000 from four parcels adjacent to the project. The council moved and passed the resolution by voice vote.
The council also passed Resolution 18-74, authorizing the mayor to submit an application to the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office for a youth athletic facilities grant. Parks Director Aliyah Hibbs told the council the application requests $400,000 to relamp existing fluorescent lighting at Boise Creek fields and to add lighting where fields are currently unlit; staff plans to leverage $202,000 in already-budgeted impact fees and said the match requirement is 50 percent. Hibbs said the total project cost is expected to be $800,000 including a 15% contingency and that roughly $198,000 would need to be budgeted in 2027 if the grant is awarded. Council member Krejzer moved the RCO resolution and Council member Smith seconded; the motion carried on a voice vote.
What happens next
Both resolutions were approved by voice vote with no recorded roll-call tallies in the transcript.
