Centennial Park Conservancy reports $14.4M invested over decade; funds Parthenon exhibits during HVAC closure

John Tumminello, speaking for the Centennial Park Conservancy, reported the organization has contributed $14.4 million to Centennial Park revitalization over the past decade and continues to underwrite maintenance, programming and preservation projects. "In the last decade, we've invested $14.4 million into the Centennial Park revitalization," Tumminello said, noting additional recent contributions to cover cost increases and a new connection to a city greenway.
Tumminello said the Conservancy supports roughly 500,000 visitors a year through cultural, educational and preservation work. He detailed program support including funding for the Parthenon's exhibitions and school tours, underwriting $159,000 to artists for Musicians' Corner and sponsorship of Kidsville programming and Celebrate Nashville.
The Conservancy is funding $200,000 to help the Parthenon's exhibit and ramp updates while the building is closed for HVAC and lighting work; Tumminello said the Parthenon closure is expected to last through June. The Conservancy also reported nearly $1.4 million invested in preservation projects in recent years and ongoing volunteer engagement: 46 green-sweep cleanups with 1,400 volunteers last year, plus fundraising and transportation support for school tours.
Board members thanked the Conservancy for long-term stewardship and raised the role of private fundraising in supporting park maintenance and programming. The board asked for continued coordination with Metro Parks on upcoming phases of the north-side revitalization and the event pavilion opening.
