Denton County Commissioners approve routine budget transfers, road projects, interlocal agreements and $150,000 HIV/STI prevention amendment

The Denton County Commissioners Court on May 12 approved a series of routine but consequential items on the consent and regular agendas, including budget transfers, road project advertising and interlocal agreements, and final acceptance of a road reconstruction project.
Budget and facilities: The court approved budget transfer request 2026210 to move $57,347 among building services landscape expenses, request 2026278 to move $40,000 from HVAC supplies to building repair and maintenance, and request 2026280 to move $70,000 from HVAC supplies to service contracts to support exterior lighting, fire extinguisher inspections and other maintenance. These transfers were presented as operational consolidations to improve efficiency and ensure adequate maintenance funding.
Roads and procurement: The court approved specifications and authority to advertise for ATB 262916, turn‑lane improvements at US‑377 at Fish Trap and Liberty, accepted final completion of the Hilltop Road reconstruction project, and approved a notice to relocate for the Jackson Road segment one improvements in Precinct 4. The court also approved the rejection of all bids for ITB262905 (surface treatment aggregate) and deferred one other bid item for later discussion.
Interlocal agreements and small contracts: The court approved an interlocal cooperation agreement with the North Texas Groundwater Conservation District on review of groundwater availability certifications submitted with subdivision plats, and approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Sanger for milling and resurfacing on a portion of Mets Road. The court also approved a $350/year Verizon data plan for certain public facilities and accepted proceeds reports from an April online surplus auction.
Public health funding: The court approved Department of State Health Services Amendment No. 2 to fund HIV/STI prevention work with $150,000 for the period Sept. 1, 2026–Aug. 31, 2027.
Votes and next steps: Nearly all motions on consent and the regular agenda carried unanimously after brief presentations and clarifying remarks. The court set public hearings for June 2, 2026 (re: moving development‑related fees into a standalone fee schedule) and June 9, 2026 (replat of Mitchell Homesteads lots 1 & 2, block 1).
