At the May 13 meeting, a planning board member updating the Town of Hampden’s Open Space and Recreation Plan asked for one or two representatives from relevant town departments to serve on the committee. The plan, last updated in 2017, guides grant applications and conservation planning work.
The committee will coordinate with the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, meet roughly every six weeks for about an hour to 90 minutes, and will focus on documenting past accomplishments, identifying future priorities for open space and recreation, and compiling grant‑supporting materials. Two volunteers from the planning board and conservation commission were tentatively committed during the meeting.
The board noted the role will be low‑time‑intensity for members but important for securing future grant funding for local open‑space projects.
