Novi schools celebrate 32 retirees and hear Orchard Hills students’ year-in-review

The Novi Community School District paused its regular agenda May 14 to honor 32 retirees whose combined service spans decades, and to hear a student presentation from Orchard Hills Elementary describing a year of community service, school fundraisers and reading initiatives.
"Tonight, we celebrate you and all you have given to the Novi Community School District," Dr. Corino said as the board read names and summarized contributions across classrooms, buildings and administrative roles. The retiree roll call named long-serving teachers, coaches and administrators and recognized co‑principals and building leaders whose careers the district described as leaving a lasting mark.
Earlier, Orchard Hills principal Miss Danfor and fourth‑grade students summarized a year of achievements: the school ranked in the Michigan Niche top 10 for the first time, launched Aurora assemblies that reward respect and responsibility, ran student-led fundraising and sales projects, hosted a book‑blast in which every student received a new book and raised $27,553 in a single Wildcat Walk fundraiser. "We raised a record‑breaking $27,553 in just one day," students reported to the board.
Board members thanked retirees and applauded staff who coordinated the recognition events. Trustees also asked Orchard Hills students simple questions about what they would take with them to fifth grade and how the school supports new students; students answered with examples of school culture, recess and the Wildcat Walk.
The board recorded motions to formally recognize the retirees and Wildcat recipients, with both motions passing unanimously. Staff invited retirees to come to the front for a group photograph and distributed small tokens of appreciation.
The district also noted upcoming events, including Novi High School commencement on Sunday and summer program registration details. The recognitions capped a meeting that blended routine business with community celebration and student voice.
