Shiprock High robotics wins Judges' Choice at world championship; board recognizes student scholars and teacher award

Members of the Shiprock robotics team joined the meeting online and said the group traveled to the world championship in Houston and received a Judges' Choice award in their division. "We just like to thank you all, especially for the school board for your endless support for robotics," a team representative told the board. Board members congratulated the team and linked the opportunity to federal impact-aid and JOM funding that helps support extracurricular programs.
The superintendent also read award notices for Jordan Holian, named a Davis New Mexico scholar with full college support, and Tiana Beas, who was listed among 12 national recipients of the FCCLA 2026 National Leadership Conference Scholarship. The board additionally named Tim Kercher as the 2026 New Mexico School Boards Association Student Achievement Award recipient; Kercher was not in attendance but trustees praised his classroom practices.
The board thanked students and staff for representing the district and encouraged continued community support for programs such as robotics.
